1.  How creative are you at promoting your business?

This time of year here in San Antonio we have what we call
Fiesta. Basically its just a reason for large crowds of
people to get together and have a party.

We took the kids downtown to watch the parade and basically
just have a good time.

While we there my wife went to get some hamburgers from a
little place down the street from where we were sitting.

When they came back with the food I noticed a very interesting
thing.

What this restaurant had done was to take what I assume was a
branding iron with their name on it and burned that image into
the top bun on the hamburgers.

The container it was in was plain with no markings, and the
bag everything was in had no markings. But when you open the
lid on the box, right there in front of me was their name: Sams.

My first thought was: "Now that's creative!" (Call me simple
but I had never seen that before.)

To be honest I can't even remember how the burger tasted or if
I really liked it or not, but I sure know the name of the
business. And there is a good chance I'll go back one of these
days to try them again.

Now that I've started your stomach to growling, let me ask you
a question:

How creative are you at promoting your business?

As hard as I've tried I can't remember ever seeing a restaurant
burger joint brand their food in this manner, so in my opinion
this is unique.

Does this give them an edge over their competition? You bet it
does!

This simple little idea that takes the cook just a few seconds
for every order puts the business' name out there in a way that
many people will pause to notice...or better yet, will
unknowingly have burned into their subconscious.

Next time we are in that area and decide we want something to
eat, guess what will be the first place I will think of?

Yep, Sams.

Your promotional efforts need a twist like this. What creative
ways can you come up with to make sure your website is
remembered?

In what way can you burn your image into your visitor's head
so that the next time they want to go searching for more info
on your topic they will instantly remember you?

Granted, this is not an easy thing to do, but I think it is
all too obvious how important this can be for your business.

This is especially important in affiliate marketing. As soon
as you start promoting an affiliate program you already have
many other competitors out there.

The more creative you can get with promoting your website and
presenting gimmicks or phrases that are memorable, the better
your chances of success.

Stop and think about this for a few minutes...what can you do
to make your website stick out in the ever-growing Internet?

2.  Is Morpheus ripping YOU off?
================================

Back in issue 95 I told you about a new scumware product
called Morpheus.

Scumware is a term that has been used to label programs that
have found new and innovative ways to rip you off.

How do they rip you off? Whenever someone installs this program
on their computer, and then sets off to surf the web, they sit
in wait watching the links that the surfer clicks on.

As soon as they click on them (its actually a little more
complex than this, but this way sounds cooler) the program will
automatically stick in their own affiliate code.

So if that person continues on to a website and purchases a
product, the scumware company gets a commission for it.

Now some would argue that this isn't so bad. Well it is bad if
the link that was changed happened to be YOUR affiliate link.

That is a sale that you will have lost out on.

Its equally bad for merchants as well because they spend money
advertising their products and services, and if someone acts on
that advertising and the scumware product jumps in and takes
their cut, that is lost revenues.

To help spread the word about how big of a problem this is, my
good friend, Neil Durrant of Affiliate Announce put together
some videos showing exactly how Morpheus changes the links to
their own.

He put up a test link from Commission Junction with his
affiliate code in it, then with Morpheus installed, browsed
to this test page to see what would really happen.
