Finally!!
Carol and I have been trying to get our house
refinanced for over 2 months now, and yesterday
we finally got it done!
It was a royal pain being caught between two
over-worked companies: Title company and the
mortgage company, but the end result is well
worth it.
Basically our payment stayed the same, but we
knocked off 7 years of payments.
A little math shows that saves a LOT of money.
Since the payment stayed the same it doesn't
help much right now, but it sure makes retirement
look a lot smoother.

1. Guilty until proven innocent

In our society there is a belief that a person is
"Innocent until proven guilty."
In the early days of the Internet, this was pretty
much what surfers felt about website owners.
In those early days, as long as you had a decent
looking website, had everything spelled correctly,
and made yourself sound somewhat legitimate, people
believed you.
Those days it was so much easier to put up a website
and have a few affiliate links on it, and people would
actually click on the links and maybe even purchase
something while they were there.
It was a more trusting environment, and people felt that
they could really take your word on the fact that the
product they were about to buy was really worth their
hard-earned money.
Those were the days of: "Innocent until proven guilty."
These days it seems that the phrase has flipped around
and become: "Guilty until proven innocent!"
Today you have to work much harder to prove what you
have to say is really worth listening to. You have to
'earn' the right to be called an expert, or a guru.
You can no longer just call yourself one. And you can
no longer just assume that by calling yourself an
expert, that people are going to go out of their way
to follow your well-worded recommendations.
Its no longer a matter of simply placing an affiliate
link in front of your visitors and hoping they will
click the link and buy.
You will now have to work harder for that click, and
even harder for the sale.
"But how do you do this when they are just surfing
through your website?", you ask.
The best way is to start working on relationship
building.
Figure out ways that you can allow your visitors to
get to know you better.
Do what it takes to make them realize there is a
real person behind the website.
Let them know that you are truly there to help them
in their quest for knowledge. Become their mentor,
their teacher, their friend.
How do you accomplish this?
Add great content to your website, and update it
frequently.
Create an email training course that is free to
all visitors.
Start a weekly or bi-weekly newsletter.
Create a Frequently Asked Questions page on your
site that addresses the many issues your visitors
may face.
Add an About Us page to your website that gives
a little information about your background. You
can even include a picture of yourself.
Write an ebook or special report and give it to
those that subscribe to your newsletter.
Respond to questions your visitors ask as quickly
as possible.
That last one is really important.
There's rarely a day that goes by without someone
telling me how shocked they were at my rapid reply
to their email.
It seems most people won't respond for several days
or even weeks after you've sent them an email.
Set yourself apart from everyone else by responding
as quickly and as completely as you can.
If you don't know the answer, tell them so. It is
better to be honest than not answer them at all.
The list above will get you started, but you should
make it your goal to learn as much as you can about
the new methods of working with your visitors.
One thing that you need to realize is they are real
people just like you, and for them to view *you* as
a real person, you first have to treat *them* like
real people.
Its not easy, and can take a lot of your time, but
the rewards are huge.
When one of your subscribers tells you that they
just purchased a product and made sure they used
*your* affiliate link so you get the commission,
you know you are on your way to 'proving your
innocence'!

2. A profitable experiment
===========================
A couple of weeks ago (when I was supposed to be working
on my new product) I decided to try a mini site experiment
to see how it would do.
I reread a few chapters in Phil's "Mini Site Profits"
( http://affmatch.com/minisite ) ebook, and went to work
I stopped short of completely finishing it because I
decided to just put the page on my site and see how it
would do.
I still need to grab a few domain names to put it into
full production, but I was quite surprised by the
results.
So far I've been able to track 3 sales as coming from
that page. There may have been a few more, but those
were the only ones I could definitely say came from
there.
Before you say: "Big deal!" let me say that I only
spent about 20 minutes putting the page together and
linking to it with a simple link at the bottom of
some of the pages on my site.
Plus, those 3 sales made me $178.80!
Not bad for under 30 minutes work, I'd say. Plus,
the page has the potential to keep on making sales
as time goes by.
