1. Editor's comments
=====================
I had 3 different readers this week ask me if it really is
possible to make a living online, and how can it be done.
My response was that it can be done, and one of the easiest
ways to figure out how is to model after those that have
been and still are doing just that.
Today's article addresses my thoughts on this topic.
Let me know if you have any comments to add.
Sincerely,
Chuck McCullough

2. Do you know how to earn an income online?
=============================================
What are your first thoughts when you are reading a sales
letter where the author claims just one of his ideas brought
in over $10,000 in sales in just one day?
Come on, be honest!
You know you head right for your calculator and start
multiplying 365 times $10,000. "I'm rich!"
Or, if you've been on the Net for a while you will read that
statement and instantly click the Back button and move on to
the next site on the list.
On one hand we have over-enthusiastic, on the other we have
total distrust. Both of which can be dangerous, or at least
income-limiting.
There really are true stories out there of phenominal sales
amounts in short periods of time. You just need to be able
to read into these statements a little further.
Most of these sales letters will give the author's
experience in this line of work to try and convince you that
you are purchasing from someone that knows what he or she is
talking about.
If they have been online marketing and promoting websites for
several years it might very well be true that they are able
to make $10,000 in a short period of time.
The point is:
THEY HAVE BEEN ONLINE MARKETING AND PROMOTING WEBSITES FOR
SEVERAL YEARS!
Don't expect to read their manual or website or whatever and
make this kind of money right off the bat. This get-rich-quick
mentality is what gets you in trouble.
Here's an example:
"With just one mailout one of our affiliates generated over
300 sales in just one day!"
What do you do? You purchase a list of names and blast out the
canned sales letter that they provide you with and sit back
and wait for your 300 sales.
Then you join the ranks of 'lowly spammer' and have your
website shut down, your ISP account terminated and you are no
closer to getting rich than when you first started.
What they fail to tell you is that this particular affiliate
has a newsletter that he sends out to over 50,000 people that
just can't wait to read the great information presented in
each issue.
They don't tell you that this particular affiliate didn't just
start in the world of Internet marketing the day before he made
those 300 sales, but has been at this game for a long time and
knows how to make sales quickly.
Total distrust isn't the answer either. Sure there are many,
many self-proclaimed 'Internet gurus' out there now, but it
isn't that difficult to figure out which ones are legitimate.
If you turn away from an offer before you've really had a chance
to figure out if it is legit or not you miss out on valuable
knowledge.
Knowledge that may have taken many months and a lot of spent
money to figure out. Most cases knowledge that is worth much
more than what you are going to pay for the book or course.
There are many such books in my library, but looking back I have
to say the must-haves in my collection are:
Make Your Site Sell! - Ken Evoy ($16.00)
http://www.affiliatematch.com/myss
Winning the Affilite Game - Declan Dunn ($67.00)
http://www.affiliatematch.com/winning
Associate and Affiliate Programs on the Net - Daniel Gray ($15.96)
http://www.affiliatematch.com/dangray
Insider Internet Marketing - Jim Daniels ($15.95)
http://www.affiliatematch.com/iim
Net Profits, How to Win the Internet Game - Delcan Dunn ($67.00)
http://www.affiliatematch.com/netprofits
1001 Killer Internet Marketing Tactics - Mark Joyner ($99.90)
http://www.affiliatematch.com/killer
As I've said, there are many more of these that I could mention,
but these are the first that come to mind.
Take a look at the sales pages for some of these books and chances
are you might get that "yeah right!" feeling once or twice.
If you get that feeling and move on before doing some investigating,
you will be missing out on some very valuable information that can
really give your Internet business a boost.
If you click the order button planning to download a book and be
rich by the next morning, you will be quite disappointed as well.
These examples may seem like extremes to you, but let me ask you
a couple of questions:
Do you own any of these books mentioned above?
If so, have you ever actually read them?
If not, what is the main reason you haven't purchased any?
If you don't own or have never read any of these you are really
missing out. Even if you are an experienced marketer and doing
well for yourself, there is something new to be learned.
All of the above authors are extremely successful and have built
tremendous income-generating businesses on the Internet.
You can't honestly tell me that they don't have anything to offer
you.
A big thing that always happens for me as I read new material, or
reread something that I've had for awhile, is they trigger a new
idea.
I may have seen a particular technique a thousand times but as I
read through a new idea will jump into my head. Some twist to what
I already know or a new approach to something that has been tried
before.
This is just as valuable as the newbie following through step-by-
step.
The third question asked why you haven't purchased anything yet.
This really targets those that haven't purchased any of the
better books or courses and not just what I have listed above.
Is it because your business hasn't made you enough money yet?
I hear this excuse a lot, and I don't agree with this thinking.
The information presented can help you make money, but if you
sit back waiting for the money to come to you before you learn
how to go about making money...you never will.
How can you make any money online if you don't know how to go
about it?
Luck?
That might get you a sale or two but it won't guarantee your
long term success.
You know everything there is to know?
Unless you are sitting on a beach somewhere, retired with enough
income to carry you and your family through the rest of your days,
I doubt that you can say you know it all.
The point of all of this is to take the middle ground -- don't
purchase everything you see that sounds good, but don't turn away
from all of them either.
Do a little research to see if the author is successful at what
he or she is doing. Would other webmasters recommend their
products?
I've given you a few of my recommendations above. If you don't
have any idea where to start, scroll back up and have a look at
those.
There is much money to be made on the Internet, and knowing how
to do it is 90% of the battle.
Once you know how to make money online, the rest is just
implementation.
