I give more information on who I chose in today's issue.

I also learned some more interesting domain name info this

2.  A little secret to grabbing great domain names
==================================================

I decided to do some research and try to figure out how sites
like Wayne Yeager's ValueNIC at
http://www.affiliatematch.com/valuenic  are able to find such
great single and double word domain names.

I was quite happy finding FindSticky.com, and when I make my
rounds through Wayne's site every couple of days I'm amazed
at the new names he's grabbed.

So I figured I'd try to find out his secret.

I don't know if I found HIS secret, but I did find out how
many, many others are staying on top of things.

Buying domain names either to resell them or to build a web
site to make money from is a big market. One that has many
thousands upon thousands of players.

Try to find a decent domain name and you will very quickly
find out how difficult this game is to play.

I managed to uncover a couple of resources that I think are
key to the secret of the bigger players, and possibly even
sites like Wayne's.

The first site is called DomainsBot at
http://www.affiliatematch.com/domainsbot

DomainsBot is a search engine for domain names that have
recently expired, are expiring soon, and even names that are
on hold.

They update the listing twice a day, so you know you will
get fresh listings whenever you visit.

You simply type in your keyword and search criteria, and
instantly you have a large list of domain names to choose
from.

The nice thing about expired names is they add a very large
number of decent names back to the pot every single day.

Prospectors grab names by the hundreds, and even thousands,
only to let many of them expire after the initial registration
period is up.

Some grab them in hopes of selling them, others with grand
plans of creating a website (the same things you would want
the names for!)

But many times they never get around to it, don't have the
money, or just simply forget to register them in time.

This makes services like DomainsBot extremely valuable if
you are wanting to get a better name, or names to resell.

But what happens when you find a couple of really great
names? Unfortunately you can't just jump over to your
favorite registrar and grab them.

When names expire they seem to go into a limbo for a period
of time. After that time is over, they 'drop' back into the
available pool.

The problem is that there are people and companies around the
world trying to grab good names and trying to beat you to it.

That's where SnapNames comes into play. SnapNames can alert
you when a name becomes available for purchase, or they can
even attempt to register it for you the minute it becomes
available.

If they are unable to register it for you they will refund
your money. I like that part!

You can track up to 10 names for free, or for $49 you can
actually have them monitor and try to grab a particular name
for you.

I had one in mind that I'd really like to grab, so I paid
the 49 bucks to try and snag it for me when it 'drops.'

***NOTE***
I wrote this issue Tuesday evening after I had put in my
SnapNames watch for the domain mentioned above, and just
received notification from their system that it came
available today and SnapNames grabbed it and registered
it for me in my name!! It was listed on the Top To Be
Dropped list on DomainsBot, and I used SnapNames SnapBack
service to try and get it for me when it came available.
  Very cool!
***NOTE***

This is also considered a Back-Order service. This means
you can use this to watch a name that is currently owned
by someone else for up to 3 years.

If at anytime during that 3 year period the name frees up,
they will grab it for you.

I'm monitoring several names that have no websites setup
for them. Hopefully, they will eventually be mine!

If you are trying to get ahead in the domain game, here are
a couple of resources to help you out:

DomainsBot - Search through expired names and view recommended
lists of soon to expire or on hold names:
http://www.affiliatematch.com/domainsbot

SnapNames - Monitor that really cool name and try to grab it
for you when its available:
http://www.snapnames.com

ValueNIC - Just choose from Wayne's lists of names that he
has already grabbed and offering to resell:

3.  My new website hosting provider
===================================

Well, after much research and head-pounding I've finally
decided on a new website host for AffiliateMatch and my
other websites.

The company I chose was Rackspace at
http://www.affiliatematch.com/rackspace

They only do dedicated hosting, so I now have a dedicated
server. I liked the idea of being the only person on my
server, and the control that I have over the server.

Rackspace also happens to be located here in San Antonio.
That seemed kinda neat I guess. I know where they are, so
if I ever have any problems with them...well you know what
I mean.

It appears that they have only been around since the early
1999, but they have come a long way in that time.

Just about everything that I came across about them was
positive, with the exception being the cost.

For me, I justified the extra cost by the quality that they
offer. Support is excellent, I've had to use them 3 times
during my move and they were on it and fixed the problem
within minutes. Even late at night for one of the calls.

I moved from Adgrafix to another hosting company, that had
a cheaper solution, and then ended up spending the better
part of a week and a half trying to get the many problems
fixed.

I don't have the time nor the desire for this, so I went
looking again.

My recommendation for you if you are looking for a hosting
company, or are considering changing to someone else, is to
do a ton of research.

Don't just think lowest cost, because you will pay for it
dearly in lost revenue to your sites due to downtime.

If you are looking for a top notch dedicated hosting
company, have a look at Rackspace:
